This Task aims at the purchase price reduction for end-users of installed solar thermal systems by evaluating and developing sustainable means to reduce production and/or installation costs on material, sub-component, system-component and system level.

This Task proposal focused on the analysis of the future role of solar thermal in energy supply systems in urban environments. Based on an energy economic analysis - reflecting future changes in the whole energy system.

The objectives of this new Task are to develop a solid knowledge base on how to renovate non-residential buildings towards the NZEB standards (Net-Zero Energy Buildings) in a sustainable and cost efficient way.

The objective of this Task is to develop a solid knowledge base how to renovate housing to a very high energy standard while providing superior comfort and sustainability.

A sustainable and much larger market for active solar water heating systems is necessary if the sun is to be an important source of energy for water heating in the future.

The main objective of the task is: to ensure the most appropriate use of solar energy in each specific building.

The IEA researchers will then create designs for new solar renovation projects which incorporate the most promising concepts investigated. They will also develop common performance monitoring procedures and reporting formats.

As the only project devoted solely to information exchange, Task 2 served as a useful adjunct to the joint IEA SHC research activities.

Since accurate simulation models are important tools for solar system designers, IEA SHC researchers devoted most of their efforts to the assessment and improvement of computer models used to predict the performance of active solar heating systems.
